HENDERSON, Ky. (WEHT) – A Boonville native is facing charges of domestic battery, strangulation and animal cruelty after police say he was in a physical altercation with his ex-girlfriend and her dog.

Evansville Police responded to a domestic violence call and say they found Jeffrey Canary on top of the victim in front of her home when the arrest was made.

Authorities say the victim was trying to walk her dog when Canary, her ex-boyfriend, was on the front porch when he attacked her and her dog. Canary also allegedly threatened to kill her dog during the altercation.

The details leading up to the alleged attack are unknown at this time.

Canary has been booked in the Vanderburgh County Jail on a $3,000 bond.
