October 26 th . John Brunjes is the migratory bird coordinator for the Kentucky Fish and Wildlife Resources Department. He said dove hunters need a one-day or season-long hunting license and a migratory bird waterfowl permit – and there are limits to how many they can take.

“You're allowed 15 doves in a day. And so you can, if you go three consecutive days, you may have up to 45 total doves in your refrigerator, freezer. And then after that, you better start eating them. Otherwise, you're breaking the law.”

Dove hunters are also asked to fill out a harvest information program survey.

From the first Saturday in September to Martin Luther King Day, people can hunt deer the old-fashioned way – with bows and arrows. Joe McDermott, Fish and Wildlife Resources’ deer coordinator, explained the rules for the four-and-a-half-month season.

“Anybody can go out with their vertical bows, compound bows, traditional bows, whichever you want to, however you want to call it, but it's a vertical bow. Crossbow starts too, but for only for like youth and seniors.”

McDermott said the general crossbow season begins September 21 st . Hunters need a deer permit and they’re limited to a total of four antlerless deer or a buck and three antlerless deer.
