Alan L. Branstrom
RAPID RIVER — Alan L. Branstrom, age 73, of Rapid River, passed away on June 30, 2024, at St. Vincent Hospital in Green Bay, Wis. Al was born on June 21, 1951, in Escanaba, the son of Arthur “Dick” and Erma (Demeuse) Branstrom. They relocated to Taylor, Mich. when Al was young, and he later graduated from Taylor High School. Following graduation, Al moved back to the Upper Peninsula to further his carpentry career. Al worked in carpentry for most of his life, most recently being employed with 41 Lumber in Escanaba. Al was united in marriage to the former Lynn LaPointe, and they shared 44 wonderful years together. Al enjoyed riding motorcycles, fishing trips, boat rides on Little Bay de Noc, the Green Bay Packers, and spending time with his family.

Home damaged by blaze in north Escanaba
ESCANABA — A fire damaged a north Escanaba home Saturday night, according to Escanaba Public Safety officers. Officers were called to 1407 N. 19th St. at 9:04 p.m. Saturday after a report of smoke and flames coming from the roof of the residence. When officers arrived, smoke and flames were coming from a second story window. Officers quickly attacked the blaze and were able to keep it contained to the second floor of the structure. Officer then made an interior attack of flames on the second floor and were able to extinguish the fire.

ESCANABA — Samantha “Sammie” Marie (Tomac) Shrove, 36, of Escanaba, passed away on Thursday, July 4, 2024, from a kayaking accident. Samantha is survived by her loving children, Lucas Parish, Madyson Tomac, Chase Shrove, and Blake Shrove and is the beloved daughter of Ronald (Leta) Tomac Jr, Dawn (Feotis) Dean, Lisa Mann, and Cindy Ogren.

Woman dead, 3 children safe after Boney Falls water rescue
WELLS TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WLUC) - A 36-year-old woman is dead, and three children were safely rescued from the water at Boney Falls in Wells Township Thursday night. The Marquette County Sheriff’s Office said officers were dispatched for a water rescue at Boney Falls Campground around 7:45 p.m. It was reported that three children and one adult were in the water in distress.
Gladstone paradegoers watch decades-old tradition
GLADSTONE, Mich. (WLUC) - A decades-old tradition started off Gladstone’s Fourth of July celebration Thursday with sirens, candy and fun. Fire trucks, marching bands, old cars and horses cruised up Delta Avenue, across 13th Street and down Lake Shore Drive to Van Cleeve Park. Kids of all ages gathered on city sidewalks for the almost 2-hour long parade. It’s been an annual event in the city for more than 40 years.
Escanaba DDA hosts inaugural Patriotic Polka Party
ESCANABA, Mich. (WZMQ) – The Fourth of July may have passed, but Escanaba’s Downtown Development Authority (DDA) kept the celebration going Friday evening. The DDA hosted a Patriotic Polka Party at the Karas Bandshell in Ludington Park. Attendees enjoyed food, raffles, and authentic polka music performed by The Mix, a band from Pulaski, Wisconsin. Gladstone pickleball project taking shape
