BROOKE COUNTY, W.Va. (WTRF) Brooke County first responders have their eye on a slip that could get worse with the rain we are expecting.

Officials say there have been three hillside slips in the last 24 hours.

The still active Hill slide Slip is at the north end of Wellsburg between 30 th Street and Dollar General Market.

EMA officials want residents to use extra caution in that area as small rocks are still coming down at this time.

Currently there are larger rocks at the top that they have their attention.

“There are some pretty good rocks up on that hillside. So the amount of rainfall we receive is going to be important to monitor this. If those big rocks up top get undercut, there’s a big chance that those would come down and they could do a lot of damage to vehicles that happen to be below them at that time.”

As of right now, EMA along with the Sheriff’s Department and the WVDOH are monitoring the hill side looking for additional slip activity.

Both lanes are open at this time.
