Wellsville's Foster resigns as school chief to take top job at Cattaraugus-Little Valley

Wellsville Central School Superintendent Dave Foster is leaving the Allegany County district to take the school chief job at Cattaraugus-Little Valley.

Foster has been Wellsville superintendent since 2017. Prior to assuming that post, he was the district's Director of Finance and Operations for about a decade. His other roles in Wellsville included high school assistant principal and a science teacher at both the middle school and high school.

"During his tenure, Mr. Foster led significant initiatives, including establishing a STEAM Center, financing a 1:1 student computer pairing program, and guiding the district through the COVID crisis," the district said. "The Board of Education expresses deep gratitude for his service."

Foster, a military veteran, has also been active in the Wellsville community, notably serving as president and treasurer of the Wellsville Lion’s Club.

The Wellsville Board of Education said the district will "begin the search for his successor immediately."

The school added, "Further details on the search process will be shared with the community soon."

The statement said Foster will "rejoin his family" by taking the position at the Cattaraugus County district, which has a K-12 student enrollment of about 790.

Cattaraugus-Little Valley announced Foster's appointment at a school board meeting Thursday night.

Wellsville is poised to hold the district's 140 graduation ceremony today at 7 p.m. Foster declined comment on his departure for now, saying in an email, "Today is about the kids."
