A Pennsylvania man was charged with attempted murder and other crimes after allegedly shooting a man during an incident Wednesday night in the Town of Wellsville.

Gregory S. Miller, 54 of Penndel, Pa. was charged with second-degree attempted murder, first-degree assault, first-degree reckless endangerment, first-degree criminal use of a weapon, and several counts of criminal possession of a weapon.

State Police based in Amity responded to Smith Hollow Road around 9:45 p.m. Wednesday for a report of a shooting involving injury. Police said the ensuing investigation determined that Miller got into an argument with a 48-year-old man “after several hours of consuming alcohol.”

Miller retrieved a Springfield Armory .45 ACP from his truck, police said, and fired several shots at the victim. One of the shots struck the man in the lower left leg. Other people at the party were then able to disarm Miller and hold him down until the arrival of State Police.

The shooting victim was taken to Wellsville’s Jones Memorial Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries and later transferred to Strong Memorial Hospital for additional treatment.
