Wellsville man killed, ATV driver injured in crash on county Road 38 in Alma

A Wellsville man was killed on the Fourth of July in an all terrain vehicle crash in Allegany County.

Amity-based New York State Police said Zachary J. Barnett, 25, was a passenger on an ATV driven by Jesse M. Bestine, 26, of Wellsville, when the eastbound ATV swerved to avoid an oncoming vehicle on county Road 38 in Alma at about 10 p.m.

Troopers said the ATV overturned several times in the crash. Officials said Barnett died from his injuries at the scene.

Bestine was treated at Jones Memorial in Wellsville and later transferred to Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester with non-life threatening injuries.

State police said the crash investigation is continuing.
