One Dead After Plane Crash Near Irene
IRENE — A report of a single-engine plane crash came into the Yankton County Sheriff’s Office at 7:48 a.m. Wednesday morning. First responders were called to the crash site in a bean field southwest of Irene near the intersection of 494th Avenue and 298th Street.
Minnesota brewery to close Sioux Falls taproom
Lupulin Brewing Co. will close its Sioux Falls taproom this fall. The Minnesota-based brewer won’t renew its lease at 2425 S. Shirley Ave. and will close Oct. 31, it said in a statement. Lupulin acquired Sioux Falls-based Hydra Beer Co. in 2019 and took over its brewery and taproom.

Woman arrested for DUI in northeastern South Dakota crash
WILMOT, S.D.- A pedestrian walking along Highway 123 died after being struck by a vehicle near Wilmot early Sunday morning. Preliminary crash information indicates Darius C. Small, a 20-year-old man, was walking in the southbound lane of the highway early Sunday morning when he was struck by Alyssa J. Feather, who was driving an SUV, also in the southbound lane. Feather was taken into custody for DUI and has other charges pending.

South Dakota Highway Patrol Trooper Taran Hunt often rides a motorcycle while on duty, and he gave some safety tips for those cruising western South Dakota’s highways during this period of increased traffic.

Owner-Occupied Property Taxes Update
The drafting of property tax relief legislation has already begun in preparation of the 2025 legislative session. Representatives Trish Ladner, Mary Fitzgerald, Dennis Krull, and legislative candidates Tim Goodwin, and Amber Hulse met on July 19th to discuss options, and begin drafting legislation to present in Pierre in January. Also in attendance was Robert Paul, Fall River County Commissioner Joe Allen, business owner Don Olsted, Legislative Representative for SMART, Keith Grieser, and lobbyists Matt Krogman and Lisa Gennero.
