Central Iowa is about to land its first outpost of Teriyaki Madness, the fast-casual restaurant that specializes in bowls of protein topping rice or noodles.

Travis Kasch and his brother Corey Kasch opened the location at 160 Jordan Creek Parkway, Suite 160, in West Des Moines on Tuesday, taking over an end cap that once housed a coffee shop.

Travis, who grew up in Algona, worked in the software industry for 25 years when he decided to return to his family’s roots in the franchise business.

What’s on the menu at Teriyaki Madness?

The heart of the menu is Seattle-style teriyaki bowls. Customers start by choosing white, brown, or fried rice or yakisoba-style noodles.

Then they choose a protein. Travis prefers the chicken teriyaki, but other options include steak, tofu, or salmon teriyaki, with spicy options as well. Other options include orange chicken, katsu chicken or grilled chicken. Finally, diners can add steamed or stir-fried vegetables. Bowls come in junior, regular, or large.

Travis said customers can customize their orders, make it a half and half with two different proteins “if you can’t make up your mind.”

Egg rolls stuffed with chicken, crab Rangoon, chicken pot stickers, and edamame make the appetizers menu.

    The restaurant serves Pepsi products.

Travis said he hired 30 staff for the location.

The restaurant has room for 26 diners inside the 1,847-square-foot space, and another 16 outside on the patio.

The Kasch brothers plan to open at least three additional locations. Iowa already has locations in Fort Dodge and Bettendorf. Teriyaki Madness, based in Denver, has more than 150 shops across three countries.
