Section of 50th Street south of Interstate 235 to close this weekend in West Des Moines

Part of a main road from Interstate 235 into West Des Moines will be closed this weekend.

The city announced Wednesday that 50th Street between I-235 and Ashworth Road will be closed to all traffic from 5 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, July 27 and 28, weather permitting.

The closure will allow crews to complete paving operations, beginning on the north end of the closure and proceeding south.

There will be a detour for motorists from Ashworth Road to Valley West Drive to Westown Parkway.

Crews will return at a later date to repair sidewalk ramps, manholes and water valve boxouts, but the road will be open to traffic during that week to two weeks of future work. Turf restoration will take place after that.
