WEST DES MOINES, Iowa — A new West Des Moines attraction featuring an indoor waterpark took another step forward this week.

The “Grand Experience” project has gained the approval of the West Des Moines Planning and Zoning Commission.

The idea for the half-billion-dollar entertainment and commercial development was introduced nearly two years ago. Developer Jim Bergman planned the 100-thousand-square-foot indoor waterpark attached to a hotel across the street from the MidAmerican Energy RecPlex on Grand Avenue in West Des Moines.

The development will be of comparable size to some of those in the Wisconsin Dells. The city council is set to vote on the plan at its next meeting on August 5th.
