Mexican Drug Cartel stopped in West Virginia for trafficking fentanyl and cocaine out of an autobody shop
United States Attorney William Ihlenfeld announced charges against individuals who were operating a large-scale fentanyl and cocaine trafficking operation out of an autobody shop in Martinsburg, West Virginia. The group is alleged to have imported significant amounts of drugs from Puerto Rico through the U.S. Postal Service as well as from a source connected to the Sinaloa Cartel. Saul Alexi Padilla-Garcia, age 34, of Shepherdstown, West Virginia, and seventeen others have been charged after an investigation that included close coordination with federal law enforcement agents in Chicago and Northern California.
Arcing insulator sparks Metro slowdown on the Red Line
WASHINGTON — Heads up, Metro riders. A track problem at the Van Ness Metro station slowed Wednesday morning commute. Around 9 a.m., Metro said Red Line trains were not running between Friendship Heights and Cleveland Park because of an arcing insulator at the Van Ness station. As a result, the Tenleytown and Van Ness stations were closed while the problem was addressed. Just before 10 a.m., Metro said workers had repaired the insulator. Residual delays are possible.

Albemarle, Greene, and Madison among 15 Virginia counties primarily receiving USDA drought designations
WASHINGTON, DC (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – Fifteen Virginia counties — including Albemarle, Augusta, Greene and Madison — have received primary natural disaster designations from the USDA due to the recent drought. This as we stand to go back into the extremely hot, dry weather pattern that began July from which we’ve gotten a break from in the past couple of weeks. This also means counties bordering these — such as Buckingham, Fluvanna, Orange, Louisa, Nelson, and Culpeper — are also eligible for FSA emergency loans.

A fatal car accident in Southeast D.C. has claimed the life of Taneisha Parker, a 34-year-old woman from Capitol Heights, MD, and injured an altruistic pedestrian who had stopped to assist her. The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) reports that the crash occurred early Sunday morning when Parker's vehicle, a 2018 Chevrolet Malibu, struck several parked vehicles on East Capitol Street and flipped over.
