West Haven officers attacked while driving

WEST HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) – A driver is facing numerous charges after police say he deliberately attacked law enforcement officers by driving into multiple police cars Saturday afternoon in West Haven.
The incident began at 1:58 p.m. when a West Haven officer driving a marked patrol vehicle near Meloy Rd. and Route 1. That is when another car pulled alongside him and attempted to run him off the road.
The driver of that vehicle is 54-year-old West Haven resident Imran Ahmed.
The officer advised dispatch of the collision and continued south on Meloy and Saw Mills Roads toward Police Headquarters.
Additional police units began to assist the officer, and the suspect intentionally crashed into another occupied police vehicle that was stopped at a red light on Greta St. by Saw Mill Rd. Ahmed was then apprehended after multiple units surrounded him.

Ahmed is being held on a $500,000 bond and his charges include:
Carrying a dangerous weapon
Reckless driving
Assault of a public safety officer
Illegal possession of a weapon in a motor vehicle
Reckless endangerment in the first degree
Failing to drive in the proper lane
The officer was taken to the hospital and treated for leg and back pain. Ahmed was not injured.
This incident is being investigated by the West Haven Detective Division as a “deliberate attack on our law enforcement officers.” Police say more information will be shared as the investigation continues.
