You can swim for free at these New York pools this summer
If you're a frequenter of the city's and state's many public swimming pools, you're by now familiar with the $2 entry fee that most of them ask for. That's, however, changing this summer: Governor Kathy Hochul just announced that the state is completely waiving entry fees at 14 state parks for the rest of the season. The list includes two public pools located in New York City: Roberto Clemente State Park Pool in the Bronx and the Riverbank State Park Pools in Manhattan.
At Gladiators NYC, full-contact MMA meets weapons and armor
NEW YORK - A New York group is honoring medieval history by celebrating in the present. In Central Park, Gladiators NYC are a dedicated band of warriors who bring history to life on green lawns dotted with picnickers. The clash of steel weapons and real armor echoes with a different kind of rhythm. "Like football with weapons""Steel weapons, full contact MMA. Team fighting without weight classes. So it was like football with weapons, and I'm like, that's it, I'm in," Damion Digrazia said. The blades are dulled, but the intensity isn't. The competitors say the most common injury is bruising. They're glad the...

Big Events Like the Olympics Matter — Just Not the Way You Think
One of my favorite books about city-making is Dan Doctoroff’s account of his years as deputy mayor of New York City, Greater Than Ever. The book chronicles New York’s post-9/11 transformation, which was catalyzed in no small part by Doctoroff’s quest to host the 2012 Olympics there. The creation of Hudson Yards in Midtown Manhattan, Atlantic Yards in Brooklyn, new stadiums for the Yankees and Mets, and more all came out of efforts for the ultimately doomed bid.

Herricks High School Spring Sports Wrap-Up
Here is your wrap-up to Herricks Highlander Spring Sports 2024. It’s been a little while since the Highlander’s baseball team made the playoffs and unfortunately, this year was no different. The boys went 2-13 in league games, there were some ugly games, but this team can be competitive next year. A lot of great underclassmen talent is on its way up and the returning players should help this team win some games next season.
