WWII Veteran Russell Vaudrey to Serve as Grand Marshal at Woodstock's July 4th Spectacular Parade
The City of Woodstock is set to celebrate the 2024 July 4th Spectacular Parade on Thursday, with WWII veteran and local centenarian Russell Vaudrey leading the way as Grand Marshal. Recognized for his bravery and service, Vaudrey, who turns 102 next week, has been a pillar in the Woodstock community for over three decades. According to a press release on woodstockga.gov, Mayor Michael Caldwell lauded the veteran's contributions, saying, "Russell’s life serves as a model example of citizenship and inspiration to the people of Woodstock."

Kingston opts into "good cause" eviction, passes ceasefire resolution in tense council session
New York’s “good cause” eviction law, passed in the latest state budget, allows upstate communities to opt in to restrictions on landlords, preventing them from evicting certain tenants without legitimate cause and from and from making predatory rent hikes. Albany was the first city to opt in in June. The Kingston Common Council opted in with a unanimous 9-0 vote, following a tense public comment period that stretched over three hours.
Wurts Street Bridge in Kingston reopens after extensive renovation
The iconic suspension bridge, also known as the “Rondout Creek Bridge,” spans Rondout Creek to connect Kingston with the Esopus hamlet of Port Ewen. Built in 1921, the bridge closed in the fall of 2020 to make way for a multi-million-dollar restoration project aimed at shoring up its structure and bringing it back to its former glory.
