Purdue had a rough first season under head coach Ryan Walters. Being just two years removed from playing in the Big Ten Championship, there’s an expectation of at least being bowl-game good. Here are three questions for Purdue types still around at Big Ten Media Days.

    3. How much does the Indiana hiring of Curt Cignetti add to the pressure?

With Purdue still rebuilding, the level of play and the rivalry expectations should be raised in a hurry with the new IU coach putting together something very interesting very fast.

    2. How quickly can all of the transfers come together in the secondary?

Star pass rusher Nic Scourton left for Texas A&M, and even with him defense didn’t do anything when the ball was in the air - the Boilermakers had the Big Ten’s worst pass defense. Dillon Thieneman is one of the nation’s best safeties, but he needs help from the new guys.

    1. Where is the scoring punch going to come from on a consistent basis?

Purdue failed to score more than 20 points in seven games, and lost all seven. There’s experience returning and the team should be better overall, but there’s a big, big problem if the attack can’t get into shootouts.
