When West Linn’s Round Table Pizza closed last year and the building’s owner offered the lease to Selina and Jeremy Klein, the couple did something they’d never done before.
The Kleins, who have worked as servers, bartenders, managers and now owners in the restaurant industry for two decades, opened their new restaurant, Elden’s Restaurant and Bar, at the former Round Table location next to Walmart on Highway 43 Wednesday, July 17.
“My husband is a part of a couple other restaurants in Oregon and he works with ORIC, which is the landlord here,” Selina Klein said. “It gave us an opportunity to come in at the ground level. Round Table Pizza was a bit in disarray when we came so we were able to deconstruct it and reconstruct it within our own vision.”
Selina Klein said they are happy to fill the void in West Linn left by Round Table.
“Round Table Pizza, before we took over, was kind of a staple in the community as a gathering ground and really family-friendly,” she said. “We want to continue that tradition.”
Their family even played a part in the naming of the restaurant. Elden comes from combining the names of the Kleins’ kids Elton and Eden.
The Kleins’ overarching vision is to make Elden’s a family-friendly gathering spot serving food made with fresh ingredients at an affordable price. Selina Klein said almost everything at the restaurant is made from scratch in-house, from pizza and bread doughs to pasta.
While pizza is Elden’s main focus, the restaurant also offers burgers, sandwiches and pastas.
In the first few days since opening, Jeremy Klein said the pizza has been a hit while Selina noted appetizers like the garlic bread pull-apart and bread goat cheese balls have been popular as well.
The Kleins have worked with other pizza joints in Clackamas County, though Selina Klein noted the pies at Happy Hollow in Happy Valley are Detroit style and wood-fired at Scooter’s in Sandy. The pizza at Elden’s is oven-baked. The couple are happy to now be in West Linn.
“The West Linn community is really friendly. There’s a lot of families and a lot of great people,” Klein said. “And West Linn isn’t huge so there’s not a whole lot of good restaurants in town. We can come in and meet the need.”
Just as excited as the Kleins are to be in West Linn, Selina Klein said it seems the community is happy they’re here too.
“I think a lot of the community watched us progress from the closing of Round Table; because we’re right by Walmart, people have been seeing us, following our journey,” she said. “A lot of the comments we’ve heard from people is, ‘Oh, we’ve been watching you for a long time and we were excited to see you were getting close to opening.’ It’s been a long time getting us to this point, but I think we’re ready and we want to focus on great service and good food.”
