Some fast-food restaurants in Los Angeles are now charging fees for bags. The fees have been noticed by McDonald’s and Chick-fil-A customers in recent months. The L.A. City Attorney’s Office says it’s perfectly legal. Last July, the 2013 bag ordinance that allows grocery stores to charge for bags was amended to also include restaurants.

Curt Cignetti is the new head football coach at Indiana, taking over from Tom Allen this season. Cignetti was one of the stars at Big Ten media days. His remarks to assembled media in Indianapolis were more colorful, humorous, and generally interesting than most of the other speeches delivered by the 18 coaches in the new-look conference. Indiana is one of the little guys in the Big Ten, predicted to finish near the bottom, alongside UCLA. Cignetti was feisty and lively at the podium, noting that at his previous coaching stops in smaller college conferences, his teams were usually favored to win the league title. Now it’s all different.
Rash of Burglaries Terrifying Residents
Residents are on edge as a fifth home has been burglarized in the west valley in the last two weeks. A home on Rubio Avenue in Encino was hit last night. This follows two burglaries in Woodland Hills on July 12 in the 4500 block of Del Moreno and 4400 block of Winnetka, another home in Encino the same night in the 16000 block of Morrison Street, and a home in the 4900 block of Edgerton Street in Encino that was hit twice – July 11 and 15.
