WEST ORANGE, NJ — After a four-hour executive session during the July 23 town council meeting, President Bill Rutherford announced that members decided to continue with the current trash collection system. They will revisit transitioning to the cart system in the future because it’s safer for sanitation workers and more rodent-proof than the existing method.

Rutherford stated, “We decided to award the contract to option number one, and we are going to aggressively look at what our options are, starting early next year, so we can be prepared for the end of this contract. If we do decide to do that, we're going to go through a massive education program.”

Regarding the interim Chief Financial Officer (CFO), board members chose John Ditinyak. “Each of us had an opportunity to interact with him in an interview. We've had his resume for some time and are excited to have him join us. So, welcome,” said Rutherford.

Rutherford also reported that the council is renewing professional contracts with Battaglia Associates and PFK OConnor Davies.

Attorney Robert C. Williams announced the transfer of the liquor license from the former Manor to his client, The Legacy Manor. He shared that the new banquet hall will be called the Grand Chateau. “[The owners who] will be running the former premises of the Manor have extensive experience in catering. They currently operate the Royal Manor in Garfield and the Bethwood in Totowa. So we're looking forward to restructuring one of the finest facilities in the state of New Jersey,” shared Williams.
