An arrest has been made in regard to the shooting that occurred on June 30, 2024, here in West Point.

David Landrell McCoy, 19, of Valley, Alabama has been arrested and charged with aggravated assault (O.C.G.A. 16-5-21) after further investigation from our criminal investigations division. During the investigation, it was determined that the vehicle used in the shooting incident was a red Chevrolet Cruze which was registered to the residential address of McCoy.

A universal alert was provided to surrounding agencies which led to the vehicle being stopped by a neighboring agency with McCoy driving the vehicle also. The vehicle had a bullet hole in the driver’s side mirror, which was consistent with evidence that was collected at the initial crime scene. McCoy also had a glock 26 handgun in his possession at the time of his arrest which was collected by officers as evidence. McCoy was transported to Troup County Sheriff’s Office without incident.

On June 30, 2024, at approximately 11:30 p.m. officers with the West Point Police Department responded to 1711 Eastwood Lane in reference to an aggravated assault.

When officers arrived on the scene, they were able to speak with the victim, a 51-year-old male who told officers someone fired gunshots into his vehicle as he was traveling on E 10th Street near MLK Jr. Drive from another oncoming vehicle.

Bullets hit the car multiple times while both vehicles were in motion, according to West Point PD Public Information Officer, Cedarious Thomas. The victim said he believed he was grazed by a bullet, but did not go to the hospital.

The victim arrived at his destination on Eastwood Lane, where he called West Point PD. He described that vehicle as a dark-colored sedan, but was unclear who the suspect was at this time.

If anyone has any information regarding this incident, please contact Detective Poe at 706-645-3551.
