Clemson Football: Leadership can make a big difference for Tiger offense
Clemson Football will enter its second season under offensive coordinator Garrett Riley’s leadership in 2024. Given Riley’s name and track record, there was a ton of hype about the ‘dirt raid’ as we approached 2023. Much of that was because a lot of the responsibility for the decline in the offense’s product since 2021 had been blamed on a lack of creativity and innovation in the offensive game plan.

Softball Rounds Out 2024-25 Roster with Strong Additions
CLEMSON, S.C. – Clemson Softball Head Coach John Rittman announced the addition of four players to the 2024-25 roster on Wednesday. The Tigers will welcome transfers Reese Basinger (Winthrop), Jamison Brockenbrough (Tennessee) and Brook Melnychuk (LA Tech) to the team this fall, as well as adding incoming freshman Marian Collins.
On a ’92 Seneca pass-thru, a president’s security concern
When a train carrying the then-President George H-W Bush approached Seneca during the 1992 campaign, the train slowed but never stopped. And that surprised people who gathered near the Seneca Depot. Devoe Blackston, mayor at the time, believes it had to do with concerns on the part of the president’s security team. And it had something to do with a telephone call Blackston received from someone wanting to know Bush’s time-of-arrival. Blackston got suspicious and relayed the call to the police station where Secret Service agents were going over security arrangements. In an interview airing today on 101.7/WGOG, the then-mayor explains exactly why he became suspicious.
Oconee Humane and PetSmart National Adoption event
Oconee Humane and Petsmart Charities are celebrating National Adoption Week. This Wednesday, July 17, through Sunday, July 21, cats and kittens along with dogs and puppies from OHS will be at the Applewood Plaza PetSmart in Seneca. Both felines and canines will be onsite Wednesday from 4pm to 6pm for the event kickoff. City of Walhalla Sanitation Department Awarded Two Grants
The city of Walhalla announced on Monday that it has received two grants totaling more than $20,000 to bolster its solid waste programs. According to a news release, the city’s sanitation department secured a solid waste grant and a used oil recycling grant from the state Office of Solid Waste Reduction and Recycling. These grants aim to support and enhance local recycling initiatives. Councilman Josh Holliday, chairman of the city’s Public Works Committee, expressed satisfaction with the grants, noting they will benefit both the city and its residents.
West Union Town Council Meeting This Evening
West Union Town Council will convene tonight to address several agenda items, notably including personnel matters. The council will receive committee reports from police, fire, roads and streets, maintenance and water, and events. Agenda items for discussion and potential votes include acquiring a maintenance vehicle, deliberating on on-call pay, and considering playground equipment. The meeting will conclude with an executive session to discuss personnel matters, followed by possible actions by the council. The session begins at 6 p.m. at Town Hall, located at 1442 W. Main St., West Union.

Kwolek Adds Landyn White & Christina Esposito to Lacrosse Coaching Staff
CLEMSON, S.C. – Head Lacrosse Coach Allison Kwolek announced the addition of Christina Esposito and Landyn White as assistant coaches. Esposito is coming off a season in which she helped the Florida program reach the NCAA semifinal, while White was most recently a top performer at UConn, where she earned 2024 Big East Goalkeeper of the Year honors.
