ATHENS, WV (WVDN) – Potters and pottery enthusiasts will gather at Concord University on November 1-3, 2024 to attend the West Virginia Potters’ Gathering. The event includes lectures by veteran potters, demonstrations, vendor sales, and a student art show.

This year’s guest artist is Linda Christianson, an independent studio potter from rural Minnesota. She studied at Hamline University (St Paul, Minnesota), and the Banff Centre School of Fine Arts (Banff, Alberta, Canada). She exhibits nationally and internationally, including one person exhibits in London and St. Louis. Her pieces are in numerous public and private collections, including the American Museum of Ceramic Art and the Glenbow Museum. An itinerate educator, Linda has taught at colleges and universities, including Carleton College, the Hartford Art School, and the University of Georgia – Athens. She received fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts, the McKnight Foundation, and the Minnesota State Arts Board. Her recent writing appeared in Studio Potter and The Log Book . One of her goals is to make a better cup each day.

Mr. Jamey Biggs, Professor of Art & Gallery Director says of the event, “For over 40 years the West Virginia Potters’ Gathering has shaped the thinking and output for potters in our state. As an art student and gathering participant in the 90’s I found the demonstrations to be transformative. It was profound to meet accomplished individuals who built their careers working in the field of ceramics in my state. I’m so happy that Concord has generously given a home to the gathering and has removed cost as a barrier for young people to participate. This year ceramic students from Woodrow Wilson High School in Beckley will be displaying their most recent ceramic efforts at the gathering. I hope the event will continue to inspire and influence future potters in our state.”

The event is free to attend, but registration is encouraged for planning purposes. There is an optional charge at registration for an event shirt. Visit concord.edu/WVPottersGathering for a complete itinerary and to register.
