The remote-work revolution launched by the pandemic is raising concerns in Providence about the city's fiscal future, as many downtown office buildings remain largely uninhabited, except by security guards. So far, that's mostly affected landlords, real estate brokers and banks that write commercial mortgages, but that could soon change. If the value of office buildings tumbles in the city's current revaluation, residential taxpayers will be on the hook to make up the difference. The Journal's Patrick Anderson explains.

Grizzlies Let The Grooves and Rhythms Flow with ‘Love In Short Paragraphs’
Love has the ability to come across in a variety of ways. It can come in a hug, an act of kindness, a kiss or even a few written words. This fact can often be fascinating and sometimes puzzling, but it does deserve to be recognized and examined. Hence the debut full-length “Love In Short Paragraphs” from the Providence alt-funk act Grizzlies, which they self-released on June 28. There’s a soulful vibe being conveyed via the groovy rhythms courtesy of bassist Mikaela Villani, drummer Riley Smith and keyboardist Emily Iwuc while complimenting the excellent riffs from guitarist Josh Zenil and Cynthia Munrayos’ vocal delivery.

Thirteen members of Boston’s Handel and Haydn Society brought the sweet dulcet tones of historically rendered masterworks of the Baroque to an enthralled Newport Classical audience Friday evening in the sumptuous acoustic of the Breakers Mansion Great Hall, a Gilded Age architectural masterpiece sumptuously decorated and meticulously preserved. Concertmaster Aisslinn Nosky led a group which included soprano Joélle Harvey, Debra Nagy, oboe, and Ian Watson, harpsichord continuo and organ.

Remembering Monumenta: The Preservation Society to Celebrate 50th Anniversary of Landmark Newport Exhibition
On August 17, 1974, Newport became a canvas for a revolutionary exhibition that redefined outdoor sculpture. Monumenta, a pioneering display of 54 outdoor sculptures by 40 renowned artists, including Willem de Kooning, Louise Nevelson, Henry Moore, Barnett Newman, Richard Fleischner, David Smith, and Christo, transformed the landscape of this historic city. To commemorate this groundbreaking event, The Preservation Society of Newport County is hosting a symposium at Rosecliff on Saturday, August 17, marking the 50th anniversary of the “Sculpture in the Environment” symposium that inaugurated Monumenta.
