Driver dead in Westbrook after crashing into a tree

WESTBROOK, Conn. (WTNH) — A driver is dead this morning after crashing into a tree in Westbrook.

This morning at 1:43 a.m., state police say a 2007 Honda CRV was traveling Eastbound on Rte. 1 in the area of Post Ave. when the driver hit a curb on the right shoulder.

The deceased is Eddy Zapata-Cardenas, 23, of Higganum, who state police say his vehicle proceeded to hit a tree and a parked car before rolling over and halting on the driver’s side. Zapata-Cardenas was the only occupant in the vehicle.

Initial investigation reported Zapata-Cardenas to have serious injuries and he was rushed to the Shoreline Clinic where staff pronounced him deceased.

The crash continues to be investigated by Trooper Dadio and anyone with information should contact Troop F at 860-399-2100.
