Culinary Fusion Hits West Town, Smash Jibarito Serves Up Culture and Cuisine at Desert Hawk Bar on Division Street
West Town's bar scene just got a spicy infusion from the pop-up restaurant, Smash Jibarito, which is quickly becoming a local fixture within the walls of Desert Hawk Bar at 2049 W. Division St. Known for its inventive culinary mashup of smash burgers and jibaritos, a Puerto Rican sandwich staple that swaps out bread for fried plantains, Smash Jibarito is serving up culture with a side of crispy beef patties. According to a Block Club Chicago interview, co-founder Josean Irizarry expressed his excitement, saying, "We're excited to not only bring something good to the table, but to kind of put a little culture behind what we're representing in terms of serving a jibarito smash burger."

Chicago man charged in Naperville armed robbery, shooting, police say
A 19-year-old Chicago man has been charged in an armed robbery and shooting in west suburban Naperville that took place earlier this year, Naperville police said Friday.Kanyon J. He was shot in the leg, and the two suspects fled on foot, police said.They also stole money, police said.Naperville police searched the area for several hours that day, and arrested a juvenile, who was transferred to River Valley Juvenile Detention Center.The juvenile was charged with aggravated robbery with a firearm.The victim has since been released from the hospital, Naperville police said.Several area schools were locked down for hours after the shooting.The video in the player above is from an earlier report.
