Polk County Sheriff’s Office Investigates Double Fatality Motor Vehicle Accident

(Des Moines) Two people died in a two-vehicle crash in Des Moines.

The Polk County Sheriff’s Office says the accident happened on August 23 at NW 44th Street and NW 126th Avenue. Authorities say 25-year-old Trey Joseph Ridgeway of Ankeny and 23-year-old Jayden Anna Hughes of Clear Lake died in the crash.

Polk County Deputies responded to the scene just before 2 p.m. after Polk County Communications received 911 calls reporting the accident. Deputies located one of the vehicles in the southeast ditch of the intersection and the other in a wooded area. The vehicle in the tree line was fully engulfed in flames.

Preliminary investigations indicate the vehicle that came to rest in the tree line was traveling eastbound on NW 126th Ave. and collided with the other vehicle traveling southbound on NW 44th St.

The southbound vehicle was occupied by one adult female, who was transported by ground ambulance to the hospital with minor injuries. Trey Joseph Ridgeway and Jayden Anna Hughes occupied the eastbound vehicle. Both died at the scene.

The accident remains under investigation.
