Former Adair Police Chief to be Sentenced Today
(Des Moines) Sentencing for former Adair Police Chief Brad Wendt is today. In February, a Federal grand convicted Wendt of conspiracy to make false statements to the ATF, eight counts of making a false statement to the ATF, and illegal possession of a machine gun. A sentencing report noted that Wendt exploited his position to buy and sell machine guns for himself and his friends, all for their personal use.

Atlantic Area Chamber Ambassadors Visit TS Bank
(Atlantic) The Ambassadors gathered to welcome new staff members to the TS Bank team on Thursday. The Ambassadors welcomed Le Ann Erickson to her new role as branch manager. Le Ann has worked in banking for the last 24 years and has been a part of two previous banks. She is excited to be working in the Atlantic branch of TS Bank. The Ambassadors were also introduced to Paige Hays, who moved to Atlantic just a few weeks ago. Paige helped open the TS Bank branch in Ames in April last year. (Johnston) LifeServe Blood Center is partnering with local first responders in its service area for the annual Battle of the Badges blood drive promotion from Monday, July 1, to Saturday, July 6 (it is closed on Thursday, July 4, for the holiday). Former Iowa Hawkeye Brittany Brown is Headed to Olympics
(Eugene, OR) – Former Iowa athlete, Brittany Brown, secured her spot in the upcoming Paris Olympics by setting a personal record of 21.90 seconds in the 200-meter race at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon. Competing from lane nine, Brown finished second overall, dominating the qualifiers. Gabby Thomas won the race with a time of 21.81 seconds, while McKenzie Long clinched bronze with 21.91 seconds, both from lane seven.

(Atlantic) Several funnel clouds were sighted, and a brief one touched down in Cass County on Friday evening. The sirens went off when a rope tornado was spotted four miles southwest of Marne at 7:49 p.m. Cass County Emergency Management Coordinator Mike Kennon says at 7:58 p.m., a tornado touched down briefly three miles west of Atlantic. High Rainfall Amounts Could Impact Pheasant Population
(Lewis) The abundant rainfall this spring will likely hurt the pheasant population this fall. John Lorenzen of the Iowa Department of Natural Resources stated that the weather impact won’t be known until the roadside count is conducted in August to estimate the pheasant numbers for the upcoming fall hunting season. Lorenzen mentioned that pheasant numbers in Iowa tend to decrease after snowy winters, followed by cold, wet springs.
