Presidential debate: All of the major television networks plan to carry tonight’s Presidential Debate hosted by CNN. The debate will originate at CNN’s studios in Atlanta. President Biden and Donald Trump have agreed to two debates, with the second one scheduled for Sept. 10 to be hosted by ABC News. There will not be a studio audience at tonight’s debate and the microphone of the person not speaking will be muted with the intent of preventing anything said out of turn from being heard.

SPECIAL EDUCATION CENTER FOR SPECIAL STUDENTS
Cerebral Palsy of Westchester’s BRIDGE School at Rye Brook, a New York State Department of Education-approved special education center serving students with disabilities, ages 5 to 21, held its graduation ceremony on June 18. The school’s six graduates in formal cap and gown attire were surrounded by their peers from the school, as well as staff, family and friends. Hosted by Principal Barry Wasser, the ceremony included musical presentations and guest speakers from New York state government.
Berkshire Hathaway’s Forest River to acquire Warwick school bus manufacturer, close plant.
Forest River Bus LLC, a subsidiary of Berkshire Hathaway’s Forest River Inc., intends to acquire Trans Tech Bus, Inc., a manufacturer of school buses, including all-electric buses, that is located in Warwick in Orange County. Trans Tech occupies a 70,000 square foot manufacturing facility. The company was established in 2007. It builds its buses on chassis made by Ford and Chevy.
Thruway reopens Ramapo Service Area with new building
The New York State Thruway Authority has reopened its Ramapo Service Area on the southbound side of I-87 in Sloatsburg following completion of a construction project. This is the 18th revamped service area that the Thruway Authority has reopened. The $450 million funding to redevelop and modernize all 27 Thruway service areas comes from private investment related to the businesses that are located there. More than 90,000 vehicles travel the Thruway past the Ramapo Service Area each day.

WDOM LEVELS THE PLAYING FIELD FOR PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES
Leading advocates for people with disabilities celebrated the 40th anniversary of Westchester Disabled on the Move (WDOM), an organization dedicated to advocating for the rights and empowerment of individuals with disabilities on June 27. Since its inception in 1984, WDOM has been at the forefront of championing inclusivity, accessibility and equality for people with disabilities in Westchester County and beyond. Jail death blamed on Orange County and medical vendor
The sister of a Middletown woman who died in the Orange County jail last year has accused a medical vendor of medical malpractice. Layla Capaci claims that Wellpath NY and Orange County corrections officers ignored critical information about inmate Niki Capaci and failed to give her appropriate medical treatment, in a complaint filed on June 17 in U.S. District Court, White Plains.
Stamford Planning and Zoning approves new dispensary
On June 24 the Stamford Planning and Zoning board unanimously voted to allow Nautilus Botanicals to open a new dispensary at 1308 Post Road East. The site, presently home to The Boatyard at Smokey Joe’s BBQ, is located near the border between Stamford and Darien. The proximity attracted public comments from Darien residents during meetings about the project. Some from Darien side with the town’s Chief of Police in opposing the sale of marijuana anywhere and objected that Stamford would allow a facility near the border.

Primaries: While the Democratic primary in the New York 16th Congressional District in which Westchester County Executive George Latimer defeated Congressman Jamaal Bowman has shaken up progressives in the party, other primaries in the U.S. also made news. Utah Congressman John Curtis beat a candidate backed by Donald Trump to win the chance to run on the Republican line for the Senate seat now held by Mitt Romney. Far-right Republican Congresswoman Lauren Boebert won a primary for the Colorado 4th District House seat. Conservative commentator Jeff Crank defeated a candidate backed by Trump, Dave Williams, to win the Republican primary for Colorado’s 5th Congressional District.
Vote on quasi-public entity’s purchase of Aquarion Water scheduled for today
On June 24 the Regional Water Authority, a quasi-public entity that provides access to water throughout the New Haven region announced that it was interested in putting forward a bid for the water company, which owner Eversource Energy is seeking to sell after acquiring it for $1.6 billion in 2017.
Latimer wins NY 16th District Democratic Party nomination for House over Bowman
Westchester County Executive George Latimer rolled to a primary election day victory over incumbent Congressman Jamaal Bowman to capture the Democratic Party’s nomination to run for the NY 16th Congressional District House seat now held by Bowman. When the contest was called Tuesday night, Latimer was leading Bowman by 14% in the Westchester tally. When votes from the Bronx were added in, where Bowman remained very popular during the campaign, Latimer’s lead stood at 10%.
