Global computer disruption felt in Westchester
Westchester County airport was among the airports around the world that had flight delays attributed to the effects on airlines of the worldwide computer problems caused by a software updated undertaken by cybersecurity company CrowdStrike. The company provides cybersecurity software to Microsoft Windows computer systems around the world. An update it sent out was faulty, causing widespread computer outages. The company said it came up with a fix and put out a new software update. It will take some time, however, for end users to use the update to restore their systems. Airlines, railroads, banks, retailers and offices were among the hardest hit. Some government computer systems, including emergency 911 call centers, were affected.

Family Centers expands with new downtown Stamford location
On July 18 the Family Centers announced the acquisition of a new building on Bedford Street in downtown Stamford to better meet its operating needs. The nonprofit provides health, education and human service programs to children, adults and families in Fairfield County. With more than 300 professionals and over 500 volunteers working to provide 24,000 families with extensive care and assistance the new 18,600 square foot location in downtown Stamford is more than double the size of the current Family Centers headquarters.

Computer problems: Computer systems around the world were shut down because of a problem when the cybersecurity company CrowdStrike did an update to Microsoft Windows systems. CrowdStrike provides cybersecurity software. It’s being called the most massive computer outage in history. Banks, retailers, airlines and railroads were among the hardest hit.
