Inflation report: Inflation remained essentially flat during May according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. Numbers released this morning show that the Consumer Price Index was unchanged in May after rising 0.3% in April. Over the last 12 months, the index increased 3.3%. The Federal Reserve Bank has set 2% as its target rate of inflation. The cost of shelter rose in May, up 0.4% for the fourth consecutive month. Food increased 0.1% in May while energy fell 2% over the month, led by a 3.6% decrease in gasoline.
Poll shows Latimer leading Bowman by 17 points
A newly-released Emerson College/PIX11/The Hill poll in the Democratic Primary for New York’s 16th Congressional District shows that Westchester County Executive George Latimer is leading incumbent Rep. Jamaal Bowman by 17 points. Latimer is shown to have support from 48% of Democratic voters while Bowman has 31%. There were 21% who said they are undecided.

Hunter Biden, son of President Joe Biden, has been found guilty of gun violations by a federal jury. Hunter Biden had been charged with lying on a government form about his use of drugs and drug addiction when buying a gun. The defense had argued that he believed he was recovering from his addiction and, therefore, believed he was being truthful when filling out the government form. $74 Million in state grants for underserved areas released
The state bond commission announced the release of around $74 million in funds to support underserved communities across the state on June 7. This is fourth round of grants under the Community Investment Fund 2030m which is specifically targeted toward releasing $875 million for projects in underserved communities including affordable housing, infrastructure, public facilities, brownfield remediation, and support for minority-owned businesses.
Carvana seeks to open facility in Beacon
The automobile sales firm Carvana, which invites customers to buy pre-owned cars via the internet and then pick them up or have them delivered is seeking a presence in Beacon. It proposes to establish a store in the building at 410 Fishkill Ave. in Beacon where Healy Hyundai formerly operated.

Garland defends DOJ: In an op-ed published this morning in The Washington Post, Attorney General Merrick Garland says that the Justice Department will not be intimidated by the baseless, personal and dangerous attacks on it from the right-wing in the U.S. He said that the attacks are dangerous for our democracy. Garland said that unfounded attacks on department employees, such as FBI agents, are dangerous for their safety. He said the attacks must stop.
A Watershed Moment
On June 10 The Watershed held a ribbon cutting ceremony with Norwalk Mayor Harry Rilling and other local notables to celebrate the rebranding and completion of renovations. Formerly known as Hotel Zero Degrees, the rebrand and refresh was announced in October 2023. The new styling emphasizes the connection between the hotel and the Norwalk River, which flows directly behind the property which sits between the tranquil river and busy Main Avenue, part of the Route 7 corridor.
Westchester County, Jean-Georges Restaurants celebrate Pride Month
On June 2, the Progress Pride Flag was once again raised over the Michaelian Office Building in White Plains in celebration of LGBTQ+ Pride Month. “Flying the Progress Pride Flag is a powerful symbol of a unified Westchester,” said Westchester County Executive George Latimer. “Our county is dedicated to being inclusive of all communities, regardless of race, ethnicity or sexual orientation. We encourage all residents and allies to join us in this important celebration as we honor and uplift our LGBTQ+ community.”
Protecting yourself from rabies
During Rabies Awareness Month, the Westchester County Health Department is reminding residents to protect themselves, their family and their pets from the disease, which is fatal if left untreated. Warmer weather means more time spent outdoors and increased chances for close encounters with animals that can carry the deadly virus and transmit it through a bite or scratch.
