Rock Valley man injured in crash of semi
HAWARDEN—A 43-year-old Rock Valley man was injured in a one-vehicle crash about 4:05 p.m. Wednesday, July 3, on Highway 10, four miles east of Hawarden. Pieter Hanekom was driving a 2009 Peterbilt semitruck east when he said a tire ruptured, causing him to lose control of the vehicle, which entered the north ditch and rolled onto the driver’s side, according to the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office.
Work underway to reopen Sioux City Railroad Museum after flooding
All of the buildings at the Sioux City Railroad Museum were flooded when the Big Sioux River went over a levee in the city’s Riverside neighborhood. That includes the Holocaust Rails exhibit which debuted in April of 2023 with photos and items from the Holocaust of World War Two. One of the exhibit designers, Lou Ann Linblade, says they tried to take steps to protect it. “We went out on Sunday ahead of the flooding to try to raise as much stuff up as we could and we really believe that we were taking things out of harm’s way raising them three feet off the ground. As it turned out that wasn’t enough,” Linblade says.
Bailey Lux Visited Her Two Favorite Basketball Stars For Her Make-A-Wish
Bailey Lux, the 14-year-old warrior from Carroll was reunited with her two favorite basketball stars during the Indiana Fever and Las Vegas Aces game last (Tuesday) night. Lux, who has been battling MPNST Sarcoma for the past two years, discovered in May after starting a low dose oral chemo, that the treatment was not effective and the cancer spread very quickly since the last scans. Bailey’s father, Kraig Lux, often referred to as Kj, says she is now entering a new chapter of the fight, chemo free.

Mason City Airport to hold ribbon-cutting for new terminal
(ABC 6 News-) A ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new terminal at the Mason City Municipal Airport is scheduled for Wednesday, July 24 at 11:00 AM. According to the airport, the 23,000 square foot terminal building will replace the current terminal building, which was originally built in 1966 and scheduled to be demolished.

Whittemore Passes Ban on “Timed” Water Softeners
–The Whittemore City Council approved a resolution on Monday that will call for the removal of any “timed” water softeners within the community.
