CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) - For Willie Fairley, owner of Cedar Rapids restaurant Willie Ray’s q Shack, service is at the heart of what he does. From serving food to families affected by the derecho, to driving all the way down to Texas to help after an ice storm, he’s always searching for the next opportunity to give back.
Angie Becker officially assumes role as Kingsley’s city clerk on July 1
Vicki Sitzmann and Angie Becker have been the friendly faces who have greeted you as Kingsley city clerk since March 18, 2024 (after Becker signed the contract March 4). Next Monday, July 1, though, there will be just Becker and Sitzmann will begin her well-earned retirement. Part time in the office is Barb Slota, Washta’s city clerk, who is Kingsley’s water clerk.

INDIANOLA, Iowa — KCCI viewer Gentry Burton shared photos of her adult children kayaking down a flooded Indianola street this week. The Warren County town saw about 5 inches of rain Tuesday as strong storms pushed across the state. The storms prompted several tornado and severe thunderstorm warnings, as well as flooding and flash flooding in a number of areas.

70 homes in Cherokee destroyed by flooding
State officials estimate 2000 homes were damaged or destroyed during recent flooding in northwest Iowa. After previous flooding in Cherokee, FEMA bought out 40 properties. Another 70 homes in Cherokee were destroyed in this year’s flooding and Cherokee Mayor Craig Schmidt said he doesn’t know where people will go.
