WATCH: Can Iowa State navigate the non-conference and Big 12 schedule?
Iowa State's offseason last summer was not ideal. A gambling scandal sprung a surprise on the roster and cost the Cyclones a number of important players. They managed to avoid danger against the FCS's Northern Iowa, which has beaten Matt Campbell's team and scared it two other times, but they couldn't avoid the somewhat frequent non-conference landmine. Iowa State plays Iowa every year -- the COVID season was an exception -- and is 1-6 against the rival under Campbell. That includes a loss last season, but last season also included a loss to Ohio to go alongside 2020's head-scratcher against Louisiana-Lafayette.

Work underway to reopen Sioux City Railroad Museum after flooding
All of the buildings at the Sioux City Railroad Museum were flooded when the Big Sioux River went over a levee in the city’s Riverside neighborhood. That includes the Holocaust Rails exhibit which debuted in April of 2023 with photos and items from the Holocaust of World War Two. One of the exhibit designers, Lou Ann Linblade, says they tried to take steps to protect it. “We went out on Sunday ahead of the flooding to try to raise as much stuff up as we could and we really believe that we were taking things out of harm’s way raising them three feet off the ground. As it turned out that wasn’t enough,” Linblade says.
