Registration open for the Plano Citizens Police Academy
Registration for the Plano Police Department’s fall Citizens Police Academy (CPA) class series is now open, the department announced July 13. The CPA is led by the Crime Prevention Unit, with all lectures and activities taught by police officers whose current assignments are directly involved in the policing activities covered in their segment of the academy. The CPA is conducted at the Plano-Richardson Police Training Center, where several local police agencies conduct their training. Fugitive charged with Springfield murder arrested
A former Springfield resident charged with murder who had been on the run for over a year has been captured. Latashia Mullins, 48, was arrested by United States Marshals on July 10 in Plano, Texas, after the Washington County Sheriff’s Department received a tip on her whereabouts. Mullins was indicted for murder and first-degree criminal abuse (child 12 or under) on June 14, 2023. She had been at large since being indicted.

COLLEGE STATION, Texas—In the aftermath of Hurricane Beryl, Texas A&M Forest Service has estimated that hurricane force winds, measured by the NOAA National Weather Service, impacted 50% of Houston’s urbanized area tree coverage. Over 400,000 acres of rural forestland were potentially impacted by hurricane force winds (74-80 mph) and another 7.4 million acres of forestland experienced tropical storm force winds (39-73 mph).
