Police say a fairly new addition to a pedestrian friendly area was defaced. Westport resident and commissioner of the planning and zoning committee, John Bolton noticed something off about the town's Rainbow Crosswalk on Wednesday. "I saw this...something, and I looked at it and I was like, 'OK, well we all know what that is,' andI mean unacceptable just beyond," Bolton recalled."I mean on so many different levels. A - we don't roll that way here in Westport." A drawing of a male genitalia covered the blue and purple stripes of the crosswalk. John Bolton filed a police report with the Westport Police Department. "There is surveillance footage of that entire area down there, so we're looking through that right now to determine a suspect and narrow down the timeframe." Police say they are investigating. Meanwhile, community leaders feel very disappointed. "This is uncalled for, this is a law that's being broken. And I want this person to be held to the highest extent of the law." said Sal Liccione, a member of the Representative Town Meeting. More upsetting to them as the drawing has yet to be covered or painted over days after it was reported. Police say the Town Highway has been made aware and is working to get it cleaned up. However, the crosswalk is made of pads and not regular paint so it doesn't clean as easy. The Rainbow Crosswalk was temporarily painted last year, this year and became a permanent addition to the downtown area. The addition serves as a demonstration of the town's inclusivity. "
