Channel Seed Bringing Country Band Icon Blackhawk to Grand Junction for Customer Appreciation Event
A popular country band from the 1990s is coming to Grand Junction as part of a free event at the end of the month. Channel Seed Field Service Representative and Grand Junction resident Savannah Lyons tells Raccoon Valley Radio that Channel Seed is sponsoring a customer appreciation event on August 28th in Grand Junction with country band icon Blackhawk to perform. She says Channel Seed wanted to have a customer appreciation event in conjunction with the Farm Progress Show in Boone County.

Sioux Center Christian plans to hire SRO
SIOUX CENTER—The application will soon be available for a second school resource officer position in Sioux Center. This role would be dedicated to Sioux Center Christian School with current SRO Kyle Munneke focusing on the Sioux Center School District. Both would work together to make sure programs and any investigations work smoothly as well as be part of the regular patrol with the Sioux Center Police Department during the summer months.

New Skills Based Testing Program Offered at Iowa Central Community College. Iowa Central Community College is pleased to announce a new opportunity for people interested in improving their work-related skills through proficiency-based testing in the areas of Industrial Machines and Industrial Mechanics. “We are now offering proficiency-based courses where students can earn their degree by completing courses using hands on skills through proficiency testing,” says Dr. Stacy Mentzer, Vice President of Instruction at Iowa Central Community College. “What is different about this process is that many employers in our nine-county service area need individuals with these skills and need them on the job. Proficiency-based testing creates a win-win situation because people can work while they gain the skills they need,” added Dr. Mentzer.

House built by Sioux City student goes to South Dakota flood victims
(Radio Iowa) – A South Dakota couple who lost their home in this year’s flooding are getting a replacement built by Sioux City High School students. Dave and Judy Oberg put in the winning bid on the house and finally got it Wednesday after a two-month wait. “Well, we lost everything in the flood, lost our home that we’ve had for 50 years, and we got a phone call saying this house was available. We put a bid in on it. Won the bid, and here we are today,” Judy says. “Yeah, we drove down the day that we got the phone call, or the next day, I guess, they said they could open up the building, and we came down take a look at it, and we walked into the house and just loved to lay out and loved everything about it,” Dave says.
