SOUTH TOWANDA, Pa. ( WETM ) – A Troy woman has been sentenced to serve time after she was found guilty of drug and gun charges stemming from an incident that occurred in South Towanda last summer.

According to the Bradford County District Attorney’s Office, Crystal A. Putnam, 42, was sentenced on Aug. 12 to serve no less than a year and seven months in state prison on the charges of illegally carrying a loaded firearm, driving under the influence of drugs and possession of a controlled substance.

Putnam’s charges stem from an incident that occurred in the evening on June 26, 2023, in South Towanda where Pennsylvania State Police were called for the report of a woman lying in the road. When police arrived at the scene, they learned that the woman had driven off in a black Cadillac.

Police then drove around the area and quickly found the vehicle, which was parked in the parking lot of the Wayside Inn on Railroad Street. The business had been closed for the night and no other vehicles were in the parking lot. Police then approached the vehicle and found Putnam in the driver’s seat of the running vehicle. She also had prescription medicine in her purse that was not prescribed to her.

Police knocked on the window several times before Putnam acknowledged that they were there. Police then noticed that a gun was sitting on the seat next to Putnam and removed it from the car.

After some questioning, Putnam was asked to step out of the car, which she refused to do. Police eventually were able to get her out of the car, at which time she began yelling. Due to her continued resistance at the time of arrest, Putnam was charged with resisting arrest but was found not guilty by the jury during trial.

In addition to this, evidence at the trial showed that Putnam had previously had a permit to carry a concealed firearm, but that her permit was revoked due to other legal matters.

Putnam could serve up to a maximum of four and a half years in prison, but she could also be released on parole from state prison after she completes her minimum sentence.
