Free Child ID Kits available in Tioga County, PA

TIOGA COUNTY, Pa. ( WETM ) – The Tioga County Sheriff’s Office is offering free Child ID Kits that parents can utilize to help law enforcement if their child were to go missing.

Parents can receive a free Child ID Kit by picking them up at the sheriff’s office, located at 118 Main St. in Wellsboro, or Sheriff’s Night Out on Sept. 14 at the Ives Run Recreation Area in Tioga.

One thing that is rather important for law enforcement in the case of a missing child is that parents have information to aid in identifying the child the instant that they report them missing. This task can be made easy for parents by having a Child ID Kit ready and available ahead of time.

Each Child ID Kit is individually packaged in a sleeve and includes the following:

• A pre-inked fingerprint strip
• Area for a photo and physical information
• Area for a DNA sample and a dental chart
• Area for medical information and instructions

According to the sheriff’s office, fingerprints are important to include in the kit because they are unique and never change, which makes identification easier. Parents are also recommended to update the photos in the kit at least once a year for easier identification.
