Fundraising carnival for stray cat TNR to be held in Southport

SOUTHPORT, N.Y. ( WETM ) — If you don’t have plans for this Sunday, consider helping stray and feral cats in Chemung County by visiting a carnival.

REM-TNR is holding its carnival at Elmer Goodwin Park in Southport from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 25. This carnival will feature games, raffles, a food truck, and more. All money raised at the event will help reduce feral and stray cat populations in Chemung County through spaying and neutering.

Event attendees should bring cash for admission and activities. Admission to the carnival costs $5, and an airbrush tattoo or face painting, popcorn, an icee, and two crafts are included in the admission price. An additional $5 donation will allow kids to play carnival-themed games and win a total of 5 prizes, and anyone can purchase tickets to try to dunk Elmira wrestler I.B. Green in a dunk tank.

Adults will have the chance to win prizes through a 50/50 raffle and two raffle tables. Ticket prices are available on the carnival’s Facebook event page . Prize winners will be drawn at 5 p.m.

People who are still hungry after their popcorn can purchase food from BC’s Food Truck. A portion of the truck’s sales will go to REM-TNR.

REM-TNR will use the funds raised at this carnival to trap, neuter (and vaccinate), and release ( TNR ) cats from stray and feral colonies in Chemung County. TNR-ing helps reduce stray and feral populations over time, prevents illness for the cats, and reduces fighting, yowling, and spraying. According to REM-TNR, it costs up to $100 to take each cat to a local vet for spaying/neutering and vaccinations.
