TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — Two days after Vice President Kamala Harris’ speech accepting the Democratic presidential nomination, Florida democrats are working to keep that momentum in the Bay Area.

Today, members of the campaign rallied women voters to focus on key issues, like abortion access, that are driving voters to the polls.

“She knows you deserve to send your kids to school without the fear of them never coming home again, she knows you deserve the free to get the medical care you deserve and make your own decisions without the politicians looking over your shoulder,” House leader Fentrice Driskell said to the crowd.

Senator Rick Scott was campaigning in his race in west Tampa Friday and was asked about amendment 4, which would override the state’s six-week abortion ban.

“The democrats are extreme. They want abortion,” Scott said. “That means they support allowing a baby born healthy, born alive to cry itself to death. It’s extreme you just can’t believe it.”

But democrats at today’s rally disputed those claims.

“What democrats want is for every Floridan to have the freedom to be healthy, prosperous and safe and that certainly means the freedom to make the most intimate decisions of heart and home,” Driskell said. “Politicians have no place in them.”
