2 arrested after body found in trunk of car at Manatee County nature preserve

PALMETTO, Fla. (WFLA) — Two men were arrested in connection to the murder of a man found dead in the trunk of a car at a Manatee County nature preserve.

Palmetto police found a man, later identified as Manuel Escobar, 32, dead in an abandoned car at Palmetto Estuary Nature Preserve at 2 a.m. on Sunday.

Freddy Sandoval, 25 (Manatee County Sheriff’s Office)

Manatee County Sheriff’s Office detectives believe Escobar was shot by Idus Murkerson, 20, during a dispute over money. Freddy Sandoval, 25, was arrested in connection to the shooting.

Murkerson was arrested by the Florida Highway Patrol in Santa Rosa County on Monday. He was charged with second-degree murder.
