ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (WFLA) — A massive summer storm caused widespread flooding across the Tampa Bay area Wednesday night.

Drivers were left stranded in the water, damaging vehicles. Others had to drive home slowly during the evening commute.

On Foch Street in St. Petersburg, water covered speed bumps and almost pushed into front yards.

One person who drove through the waters described the storm as a “crazy rain event.”

Viewers sent in pictures of flooding from around the area.

On 30th avenue and 38th street north, water flooded the front end of cars and covered street medians.

In the Tyrone area, cars were stranded in the high waters.

Over in Shore Acres, an area that floods often, water pushed into front yards and up to some houses.

Officials remind drivers if they see standing water to turn around, and don’t drown.
