    Final day of disaster preparedness sales tax holiday

    TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — Friday is the final day to snag tax-free disaster prep items as hurricane season reaches its peak this month.

    Every year, Floridians can purchase qualifying supplies to prepare for the storms.

    NHC continues to monitor 4 disturbances in the Atlantic and Gulf

    This is the second sales tax holiday Governor Ron DeSantis issued , which began on Aug. 24. The first sales tax holiday ran from June 1 through June 14.

    Below is a list of qualifying items:

    • Pet supplies: Cans of wet cat and dog food costing $10 or less; collapsible and travel-sized food or water bowls for pets, pet waste disposable bags costing $15 or less; pet leashes, collars, and muzzles costing $20 or less; cat litter costing $25 or less; pet beds costing $40 or less; portable pet kennels/carriers and medications costing $100 or less
    • Manual can openers: Costing $15 or less
    • Reusable ice: Costing $20 or less
    • Portable self-powered light sources: Costing $40 or less
    • Batteries/Radios: Batteries, including rechargeable batteries, excluding boat or automobile batteries, and self-powered radios costing $50 or less
    • Gas: Gas or diesel fuel tanks costing $50 or less
    • Portable power banks: Costing $60 or less
    • Coolers: Non-electric food storage coolers costing $60 or less
    • Fire extinguishers: Costing $70 or less
    • Smoke/carbon monoxide detectors: Costing $70 or less
    • Tarps: Tarps or flexible waterproof sheeting costing $100 or less
    • Generators: Costing $3,000 or less
