Human remains found in Smyth County, Sheriff reports

SMYTH COUNTY, Va. ( WFXR )– The Smyth County Sherriff’s Office reports human remains were found in the Skulls Gap area of the county on Saturday, June 22.

According to the sheriff , the remains found are believed to be those of a missing man identified as Eric Pennington.

Investigators from the sheriff’s office collected the remains along with some clothes. These items were sent to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Roanoke for a positive identification.

The sheriff’s office says this remains under investigation pending the report from the medical examiner. WFXR News will update this story as further information is released.
