Pinpoint Weather: A hot and potentially stormy 4th

ROANOKE, Va. ( WFXR ) – Tonight will be partly to mostly clear and calm.

Thursday will be sunny with scattered clouds, showers, and storms in the afternoon and evening. There is a chance some of the storms could be strong to severe with damaging wind.

The Storm Prediction Center has much of our area under a Marginal threat (1 out of 5). The greatest hazard will be damaging wind but brief periods of heavy rainfall and small hail could accompany some storms.

Thursday will be hot and humid with afternoon temperatures in the mid-80s to mid-90s. Where the air temperature is in the mid-90s, the higher humidity will create a heat index around 101.

The hot weather will continue through the weekend and beyond.

Showers and storms are in the forecast for the week with close to normal rainfall.

The amount of rainfall expected will likely not have a regional impact on the drought.

The dry conditions do make the use of fireworks a hazard for fires.
