DANVILLE, Va. ( WFXR )– The Danville Police Department reports three juveniles were taken into custody in connection to alleged vehicle break-ins on Wednesday, July 3.

According to the police department, officers were dispatched at 5 a.m. to Hermitage Dr. on a report of multiple people allegedly breaking into vehicles in the area. Officers say they saw three individuals allegedly fleeing on foot from a running vehicle, which also left the scene.

Police reported the same vehicle was later found crashed and unoccupied on Setliff Street. However, the vehicle’s owner told officers the car had been allegedly stolen from her residence on Holbrook St.

At around 6:25 a.m., officers continued to search for the three individuals believed to be involved and found three juvenile men matching the suspects’ descriptions on Memorial Dr. near the Robertson Bridge. When officers stopped near the suspects, police say they allegedly fled down the bank and into the river, exiting the river on the north side.

Police report two individuals were detained, however, one suspect was not found with the others. Out of caution, the Danville Fire Department’s Swift Water Rescue Team and Danville Life Saving Crew’s drone team were called in to check the river for the third suspect.

After searching in the river, police reportedly located the final suspect later in the morning on Trade Street.

There are no charges against the three juvenile suspects at this time, however, police say the investigation remains ongoing.
