After millions in the Midwest and Northeast were able to enjoy a summer weekend without high humidity, an uptick in moisture this week will lead to showers and thunderstorms. Following a comfortable and mostly rain-free weekend for the second half of July in the Midwest and Northeast, more humid air with the likelihood of showers and thunderstorms will return for the fourth week of July, AccuWeather meteorologists say.

(IowaStormCenter.com) -- A strong pacific storm system will get underway later tonight with severe thunderstorms and heavy rain. The first round of the one-two punch event is hitting across western Iowa this morning. Then the focus will be across southwest Iowa for severe thunderstorm development by this evening with threats for hail, damaging winds, heavy rainfall and a couple of isolated tornadoes.

A slow-moving frontal boundary will drop south across the region today and tomorrow, triggering showers and storms today and an area of rain on Tuesday. This boundary extends west to east roughly across Lake Ontario this morning. An area of rain and storms over Canada has moved out over the northern waters of Lake Ontario. This area of precipitation is expected to stay out over the lake until it passes east of the Finger Lakes.

Thunderstorms expected this afternoon and evening

If it's the final weekend of the Summer for you, Mother Nature doesn't seem to want to cooperate. From rip current risks at the beaches from Ernesto, to rain chances, hazardous weather is possible for many. This is the same system that brought severe weather to the Plains and Midwest earlier in the week. The area of low-pressure responsible will move across the Upper Midwest and into New England on Saturday.

A hurricane watch has been issued for part of Florida as a strengthening tropical system, soon to become Tropical Storm Debby, approaches the state over the weekend. Tropical Depression Four is forecast to strengthen while moving northward along the Florida Peninsula's Gulf coast this weekend, spreading rain, gusty winds and severe thunderstorms slowly northward. AccuWeather meteorologists warn that not only may the feature become a hurricane, but it may also later stall along the southeastern United States coast next week.

Here we (could) go again.. After making a second landfall in South Carolina, Debby weakened to a tropical storm and now located close to Charlotte, North Carolina. Despite the downgrade, the storm remains a threat, bringing heavy rainfall and tornado watches across North Carolina. Tragically, Debby has claimed six lives, including two in Georgia. Although Debby will soon lose its tropical characteristics, the risk of flooding and tornadoes persists as it moves into other states.

A worker died Aug. 5 when the crane he was operating toppled at a wind farm construction site in remote Natrona County, state and local officials say. The victim, John William Hoffpauir, Jr., 55, of Houma, Louisiana, was working as a crane operator at the Cedar Springs wind energy construction site north of Casper and Glenrock under the control of Blattner Energy at the time of the accident. Warm and humid conditions will be with us this weekend. A slow moving upper trough will push a cold front slowly across our area on Sunday. Showers will be possible in the morning hours followed by afternoon showers and thunderstorms. Some of the storms could be quite heavy on Saturday afternoon and the storms prediction center has placed us in a marginal threat for severe storms. There will also be a few heavy downpours and as they continue into Sunday afternoon we will have to watch out for some minor flooding issues.
