    CTA, Metra and Pace to offer free rides for 1st day of school

    CHICAGO — The Chicago Transit Authority (CTA), Metra, and Pace will offer free rides for kindergarten through 12th-grade students later this month.

    On Monday, Aug. 26, the first day of the new school year for Chicago students and some surrounding suburbs, ride fees will be waived for students attending a public or private school and an accompanying adult from 5:30 a.m. until 8:30 p.m.

    CTA, Metra, and Pace have offered the free-riding service for the third year in a row.

    CTA also offers students reduced fares of 75 cents on school days throughout the entire academic year. Students are also encouraged to take advantage of Pace’s 30-Day Reduced Fare Pass and reduced fare ticket for Metra .
