Orland Park man charged for taking victim at gunpoint this week at southwest suburban business

CHICAGO RIDGE, Ill. — An Orland Park man was charged with multiple felony charges, including aggravated kidnapping, after taking a victim at gunpoint earlier this week at a business in southwest suburban Chicago Ridge.

According to Chicago Ridge police, officers responded to a call of shots fired just after 1:15 a.m. Tuesday at Signature Line Motorsports, 10005 South Harlem Avenue in Chicago Ridge.

Police say when officers arrived, they learned that an employee of the business had fired several rounds at a tow truck driver that was on the property repossessing a vehicle. The frightened tow truck driver fled northbound on Harlem Ave. in the southbound lanes, police say.

According to police, the suspect then took another victim, who was at the business with the repossession company, into the business by gunpoint.

Chicago Ridge and assisting Bridgeview police officers were able to gain entry to the business and take the suspect into custody. He was identified as Mahyoub Dawabsha, 26, of Orland Park.

Police say the victim who was being held at gunpoint inside the business was unharmed. Officers searched the business and located the loaded firearm.

The Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office reviewed the case with detectives and approved felony charges against Dawabsha of aggravated kidnapping, armed robbery, two counts of aggravated discharge of a firearm, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and three counts of aggravated assault.
