Jackie Robinson West pitcher launches book a decade after the team took the sports world by storm

CHICAGO — A decade ago, Jackie Robinson West Little League was the team to beat, making it all the way to the Little League World Series Championship in 2014, and inspired thousands to watch and root for Chicago’s Very Own.

“From there, it seemed like nobody would beat us,” said Brandon Green.

Green was a pitcher on that team, and ten years later, is now a recent college graduate with a book encapsulating his memories and experiences as a part of that team.

“[The] comradery … Sure I was with a bunch of people I had been playing with since I was knee high to a bug, but it’s just being able to navigate,” Green said. “Being able to network, being able to meet people … I still talk to people I met in the Little League World Series.”

Titled “C is for Champions,” Green said the book takes the lessons he learned from those formative years of team building during his pre-teen years.

“It’s comprised of character traits that I think everyone should be able to have in their life,” Green said. “And I think if you honor and hone these traits you can be successful in life.”

The novel was also written during the most isolating moments of our existence as humans in recent history, when his mom pushed him to do more from home while the world was in lockdown from COVID-19.

“Yeah man, we got to do something about this … You need to get creative. You need do something productive,” Green said of what his mom told him during COVID.  “When I went back to school once everything was lifted, that’s when I started to really get the groundwork for the book.”

A book Green said shows how building character is an important step in life to becoming a champion, as written by a one-time champion on the Little League field.
